In this case, we applied our knowledge of the test-lab and medical-logistics industry to design a custom box for Covid test collection. This “Covid Box” had to meet multiple new criteria. It had to be easily installed in public areas and secured with lags bolts in a tamper resistant manner. The drop slot had to be larger to accommodate both the Covid test sample and important patient documentation. Additionally, the access door had to open wide enough to allow drop-off into the slot but restrict tampering as well as protect the internal contents from weather and theft. Furthermore, since a traceable chain of custody is a requirement of the testing industry, the McShane Covid box had to be key-lockable and rugged enough to protect the specimens and documents until pick-up by authorized individuals from the Laboratory. All McShane metal box products are constructed from heavy gauge galvanized steel to withstand harsh conditions and abuse. Most importantly, the newly designed Covid box had to be produced quickly and in sufficient quantities to meet demand. As the factory, we were able to rapidly respond to our client’s needs and we delivered this new product in record time.
